What is happening to Royal Mail 2nd Class Delivery?

Royal Mail Delivery Changes

Royal Mail have confirmed that there will be some changes to 2nd Class Mail, being introduced across the UK this year. Mail will be delivered every other weekday, no Saturday deliveries and the "aim" is to get the mail to you within three weekdays. Interesting that the website says three day delivery aim but the leaflets state three weekdays.

It appears there will be a 2 week delivery model of Week A delivering 2nd Class post just on a Monday, Wed and Friday.and Week B the following week Tuesday and Thursdays.

This can lead to potential long delays in receiving your mail, a letter posted on a Friday and sorted in Week A, and with a three week day aim, means that you won't get your mail items delivered until the following Thursday - so the reality is that it will take 6 days from posting to delivery.

Royal Mail only seem to take into account weekdays and ignore the fact that there are 2 days at the weekend. A large number of our business address clients opt for a weekly 2nd class delivery, which we send out on a Friday, so we will monitor how this affects mail delivery and consult with clients as appropriate.

Thankfully 1st Class will continue to be delivered 6 days a week, and parcels seven days a week.

Although, justification is a drop in volume, the price of stamps is increasing all the time and a 1st Class letter is now £1.80, which may result in people preferring the cheaper 2nd Class option for non urgent mail but i hope that this is not a lead up to removing the 2nd Class service in the future if these measures do not produce the anticipated financial savings and efficiency.
